A few words about the seminar

We often consider a yoga practice approach to be advanced in relation with what appears to be right or advanced in the eye… However, yoga has more to offer that can olny be experienced through deep practice.
Relaxing the face, keeping a deep and steady flow of breathing, a suitable and comfortable asana approach often enables us to receive something higher within our heart.
During the week, we will work on the primary series, that has a therapeutically approach by its nature, giving emphasis to as many details as possible, encouraging the flow and feeling of meditation though movement that is already occurring.
Practice will take place in the morning and evening.
Morning practice will focus on an individual approach for each practitioner, while the evening group sessions will explore details and ways of improving and advancing this particular method.
We will use Asana, Pranayama, Mudras & Vedic chanting.

Information concerning the program

Mysore or self-practice is known to all that have practiced the method of Asthanga Vinyasa yoga.
However, during this week we will approach it in a very slow way, giving emphasis to details, flow and repetitions of Asanas in order to deepen in our practice.

The Pranayama class will prepare us to build a daily practice while for those that already practice they can deepen more in it.

The evening class will work more in details with basic aspects of the practice using Asana as a way to experience the benefits of a method that works in our body and soul, including helpful tools like our gaze, the sound and flow of breath, ease / comfort and variations of each aspect of the practice. Evening classes will give us another point of view and thus support our already established morning practice.

After a short break, we will spend time to approach the philosophical basis of Yoga through selected sutras, articles, or personal views, questions and thoughts from our experiences.

We will close the seminar with a led class on Saturday morning at 8:00 am.
This final practice will give us the opportunity to experience the group energy that has been build during the previous days, allowing for emotions to flow between us with intimacy and easy.

During the useful time of this seminar, we will approach many aspects / levels of our practice, keeping in mind that a practitioner does not need to adapt to a method but the method can adapt to the practitioner in order to serve and support each individual and phase of his / her own life.
This Advanced Yoga primary series course is addressed to everyone that is willing to deepen and experience the inner side of this practice.

A few words about the seminar

The rationale of the seminar is the deepening of the personal practice in a space where the high altitude covers these criteria and creates a special scenery for substantial development of our practice.
Tauris' resort is located in the Chania County, on the plateau of Niato at an altitude of 1,200 metres. The area of the resort is beautiful, with a view of the high tops of the White Mountains. To get to the resort, we will hike for 1.5 hour on a path and rural road, starting from the village Askyfou (on the way to Sfakia).
Niato plateau witch is next to our resort is ideal for hike and do various activities during our week staying.
Our stay at the resort will be comfortable as it offers large space and warm atmosphere. The seminar will take place in a room with big windows which will provide natural light and beautiful view of the surrounding area. The fireplace and the wood stove will offer a special touch of warmth and welcoming atmosphere. In our free time we can enjoy short walks in the nature gazing the view and lose ourselves staring at the sunset or the clear sky.

The schedule

We will start hiking to Niato refuge at Friday evening.
We will have plenty of time to enjoy and observe all lessons that nature, silent energy of the mountains offers and all the beauty of this wild area.
The next morning and evening we will practice yoga with a more therapeutically approach, body and soul can be prepared to be in more union with the area.
A vegetarian lunch and dinner, plenty of free time for small hikes around, a bright sky with countless stars will give us may chances to be in a more peaceful relation within our self’s.
The next morning after a short yoga practice we will start by crossing the Sfakiano gorge or else Vartholomatos canyon, which is located two kilometers east of Sfakia. It starts from an altitude of 1200 meters and ends at the Libyan Sea. The gorge is six and a half kilometers long, six to seven hours walk, and the path within it is very easy.
The hike starts from Tavri plateau and initially passes alongside the E4 footpath. As soon as you pass through the abandoned village of Kali Lakoi, you will enter the canyon. This is one of the major canyons for flora observation in Greece, full of oaks, cypresses, and pines.
At the end of the trail, you will reach a beautiful, isolated beach called Filaki (prison), with small cobbles and crystal clear waters. There, you can find sunbeds to lie on and a small canteen for any snacks or refreshments.

In the morning, we are going to have personal self practice (Mysore), to be followed by an introduction to Pranayama.
After that, in the afternoon, we are going to have a special group practice focusing on backbends and hip openers.

The schedule

Our day will start with meditation. Each can meditate according to the technique he/she wishes as soon as it is silent.
The morning practice will be Mysore, during which every individual can work depending on their pace and level.
Mysore practice is already famous to those who practice the method of Asthanga Vinyasa yoga. For those who need tutoring, it will be available.
Pranayama lesson will provide the necessary foundation for daily practice. If anyone has already been practicing it, we will emphasize the in depth focus.
In the afternoon the lesson will specialize in the backbends and hip openers.
It will offer another aspect and will support the morning practice. We will not use any special order or flow as it is the usual practice. Instead we will emphasize the flexibility more.
Any simple or difficult Asana is practiced in a repetitive way in order to be suitable and helpful to everyone.
Although there will be a group tutoring in the beginning of these afternoon sessions, afterwards, everyone will work individually, focusing on their own needs.
The advanced and detailed approach of the steps with which we touch each Asana , and the slow breathing, bring us with each repetition to a deep state of meditation where body and spirit become one.
Many people have seen the advantages of this method, so we continue with enthusiasm and interest to change and transform our existence into something more beautiful.
The seminar will close with a group practice (led class) on Saturday morning at 8.30 am.
The group practice on Saturday will give us the chance to feel the special energy of a group that has been together for a whole week, letting feelings flow in a beautiful and cozy way among us.
In the evenings, after dinner, we will spend time together and share our experiences & questions about yoga, its philosophy & practice.

 

Diet

The day will start with a hot herbal tea for invigoration and warmth before the first meditation.
After the morning practice we will offer breakfast which will consist of a variety of balanced and energising choices (whole wheat bread, tahini, honey, carob syrup, cooked porridge, fruit).
At noon before the 2nd part of the seminar, you may choose a fruit which will be provided or a healthy snack. When the 2nd practice finishes, for dinner you may choose one of the vegetarian meals of the resort. If anyone wishes coffee or extra herbal tea or snacks during the day they can order it from the resort kitchen.

The rationale of the seminar is the deepening of the personal practice in a space where the high altitude covers these criteria and creates a special scenery for substantial development of our practice.

Kallergis' resort is located in the Chania County, over the plateau of Omalos and the Canyon of Samaria, at an altitude of 1,680 metres. The area of the resort is beautiful, with a view of the high tops of the White Mountains, the Cretan and the Libyan Sea. We will hike for 1,30 hour to approach the resort from the plateau of Omfalos on a path and rural road.

Our stay at the resort will be comfortable as it offers large space and warm atmosphere. The seminar will take place in a room with big windows which will provide natural light and beautiful view of the surrounding area. The fireplace and the wood stove will offer a special touch of warmth and welcoming atmosphere. In our free time we can enjoy short walks in the nature gazing the view and lose ourselves staring at the sunset or the clear sky.

The schedule

Our day will start with meditation. Each can meditate according to the technique he/she wishes as soon as it is silent. The morning practice will be myshore, each can work depending on his pace and level.

At 16.00 the 2nd part of the seminar starts, beginning with a guided yoga lesson during which we will try to deepen in Asana. Then we will practice Pranayama and Chanting.

Finally, during the evening speech, issues related to the philosophy of yoga and how its principles can be applied to our practice and our lives in general will be discussed. The last day and if the weather allows it we will climb a little higher on one of the near tops, at an altitude of 2.000 metres. From there we will enjoy the Canyon of Samaria from above and the great view of the massif.

A crash course in Asana & Pranayama

By practicing yoga every day or as much time as possible, we notice important changes in ourselves.
In that seminar we are going to practice intensively for six days.
In the morning, we are going to have personal practice (Mysore), a kind of lesson that is going to be followed by an introduction to Pranayama.
After that, in the afternoon, we are going to have a special group practice focusing on backbends and hip openers.

The program is going to be:

7.00 am: Meditation (optional).
8.00 am: Mysore (Monday to Friday).
10.00 am: Prayanama & Chanting (Monday, Wednesday & Friday).
17.00 am: Backbending (Monday to Friday).

Information concerning the program:
The classroom will be open from 7.00 o clock in the morning for anyone who wants to begin his day with meditation by choosing any technique he wants, as long as it is silent.
No technique of meditation will be taught in that seminar, so everyone can choose the method he wants, as long as it is silent.
Of course, if it is necessary, we could offer anyone advice and information related to it.

Sailing & yoga on south Crete

In an effort to combine our love for Crete, sailing and yoga we are organizing a three-day trip wondering by sailing boat in the south side of Crete enjoying the therapeutic waters of the area.
This trip will take us from Paleochora to Sfakia and depending on the weather , the sea and the wind we will stay overnight at the amazing beaches of Lissos, Domata, Kalogero or Fournoti where we will also practice yoga emphasizing on breathing techniques –pranayama.
The fresh and full of energy air enables everyone to participate either experienced or beginner at the particular technique, offering instruction and support.

We will set off on 7/10 at 3:00 in the afternoon heading to the ancient town of Lissos from Paleochora spending the night there.
The next morning we will head east to the beautiful bay of Pefki for a morning swim and we ‘ll spend the day touring around the beaches of Domata, Fournoti , Kalogero and Marmara where we will spend the night as the weather permitting.
On the following day we will visit Sfakia, Finika, Loutro, Glyka Nera, Iliga completing our tour in Hora Sfakion on Sunday 9/10 sometime early in the afternoon to catch the last bus to Chania.


We will be sleeping in the sailing boat cabins but a sleeping bag might come in handy so that you can spend the night on one of these beaches.
A yoga mattress , appropriate clothing and a windproof jacket will also be necessary.
An afternoon vegetarian meal will be provided and you could bring along any snacks or fruit you wish.
